Gary Hochman has worked in the development of organizations for over 30 years and has served in senior executive, line, and staff roles. As founder of The HR Matrix and now, as principal of The Hochman Group, his consulting practice integrates strategy, work systems design, and team and individual performance to enhance organizational effectiveness. Earlier in his career, Gary was the vice-president of HR at OCLI/JDS Uniphase and senior organization development consultant at Hewlett-Packard. He holds a B.A. in sociology and a M.A. degree - with a focus in organization development and training - from the Curtis L Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.
Throughout his career, Gary has led numerous projects helping executives, managers, and governing entities achieve results in varied and demanding situations. His facilitation and leadership skills coupled with business acumen and understanding of organization culture and change, have generated success in a broad range of interventions and situations, including start-ups, mature organizations, non-profits, and complex work systems. Working in close partnership with his clients, Gary designs interactive and participative processes to build accountability and commitment throughout the workplace.
Gary brings extensive experience in organization development and holds expertise in team and leadership development, organization design, mergers and acquisitions, culture change, as well as meeting design and facilitation. In addition to his commitments to his family and friends, Gary serves on the Board for the Center for Well-Being, a Sonoma County non-profit committed to evidence-based health practices and programs that advance health equity. Gary served on the faculty of the Organization Development program at Sonoma State University for six years ant the University of San Francisco for four years. For inspiration and fun, he is active as a cyclist, scuba diver, traveler, and music lover.
